Congressman Darrell Issa has reintroduced a resolution that acknowledges the contributions of independent workers and contractors to the American economy. The resolution aims to defend economic opportunities for millions of Americans who work independently.
“We stand with the millions of independent workers, contractors, and freelancers who are under threat from politicians and bureaucrats, especially in California, seeking to eliminate their livelihoods,” said Rep. Issa. “Too often dismissed as casual or part-time labor, these hardworking, self-reliant individuals are vital to the American economy, they’ve chosen an honorable path, and they deserve our support.”
Issa’s resolution has garnered support from seven House colleagues and is endorsed by organizations such as TechNet, the Flex Association, the Coalition for Workforce Innovation, and Glamsquad.
Evan Armstrong, Chair of the Coalition for Workforce Innovation, expressed appreciation for Issa’s efforts: “Independent work empowers people of all types to decide for themselves when, where, and how they work. As innovative work arrangements become more popular, it is critical that our policies catch up to protect those who choose to work independently and entrepreneurially. We thank Congressman Issa for championing this important message on behalf of independent workers across the country.”
The Flex Association also commended Representative Issa: “On behalf of the app-based industry and its more than 23 million independent workers… App-based platforms have made independent work more accessible than ever before… We appreciate Rep. Issa’s leadership in highlighting the benefits of this flexibility.”
TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore remarked on the gig economy’s role: “The gig economy is driving new opportunities in communities nationwide… We applaud Representative Issa for recognizing the significant contributions that gig workers make every day.”
Glamsquad added its voice in support: “Glamsquad applauds Congressman Issa’s resolution… Independent work empowers beauty professionals across the country… using app-based platforms like Glamsquad enables beauty professionals to have additional reach and flexibility.”
