Rep. Darrell Issa, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 48th district since 2021, posted a series of statements on his social media accounts addressing the credibility of the media and honoring Gold Star families affected by the 2021 Abbey Gate attack in Kabul.

On August 25, 2025, Issa criticized mainstream news outlets, stating, “The liberal media lost its credibility a long time ago. These are just the leftovers.”

Later that day, he expressed support for families who lost loved ones in the Abbey Gate attack during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Issa wrote, “The Gold Star families of the fallen from the 2021 Abbey Gate attack represent our best and bravest — I’m proud to know them and I’ll never stop fighting for them.”

On August 26, 2025, Issa referenced the four-year anniversary of the attack at Kabul airport and commented on how political leaders have treated these families: “Four years ago, America lost 13 of its best and bravest at Abbey Gate in Kabul. Their Gold Star families are some of the most extraordinary people I’ve ever known, and while Biden insulted them, @realDonaldTrump and @JDVance have honored them.”

Issa has represented California’s 48th District since replacing Duncan D. Hunter in 2021. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1953 and currently resides in San Diego. Issa earned his BA from Siena Heights University in 1976.
