Rep. Darrell Issa, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 48th district since 2021, has been vocal on social media regarding his views on Los Angeles’ governance and management of recent crises. His tweets have addressed issues ranging from fire management to law enforcement.
On June 7, 2025, Rep. Issa tweeted “If only Karen Bass fought against the Los Angeles fires like she fights for illegal aliens.” This comment was directed at Karen Bass, highlighting a perceived disparity in her policy priorities.
The following day, on June 8, 2025, he continued his critique by stating “Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass have a real habit of letting Los Angeles burn.” Here, Issa implicated both the Governor of California and the Mayor of Los Angeles in what he sees as inadequate responses to ongoing challenges facing the city.
Later that same day, Issa tweeted again about governance in Los Angeles: “Los Angeles needs the rule of law, not the rule of mob.” This statement suggests his advocacy for stronger law enforcement measures over what he perceives as disorderly conduct or governance.
Darrell Issa was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1953 and currently resides in San Diego. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Siena Heights University and succeeded Duncan D. Hunter in representing California’s 48th district.
